Today I had to photograph ‘Drowning Bear’ for a special project. I made this quilt a couple of years ago after
visiting the Denver Museum.
The portrait was inspired by a painting by Hubert Shuptrine.
The images around the border are illustrated on the fabric with pigment ink. I use Tsukineko fabrico pens which means that I am actually making my own fabric.
The pigment ink is translucent and dyes the fabric with no surface texture at all. In fact if you run your hand over the fabric you can’t feel the applied ink at all. I love the way the background fabric shows through the illustration enhancing the ambiance.
