The placemats in my dining room are blue toile with bright yellow lemons and even brighter oranges..
The
toile looks super with those colors…Its a busy print and I observe
that the business of that print sets the boundaries for the simplicity
of the picture.
So a quick, rough sketch at breakfast this morning.
Simple, to the point and flowing…
By
flowing, I mean that the orange is the central point. the leaves
balance it and the stem is at an angle that adds interest and ties the
entire composition.
I drew the block
in EQ…. and because I like the orange and blue I added that to the
sashing, but black and white is always dramatic and looks super in the
background.
Voila, the quilt. 6" appliquéd blocks.
In retrospect, I think I need to change the outside sashing to orange…
I guess you noticed that I added a different fabric to the center
bock. As you can see it adds texture, it also adds interest to an
already busy picture.
I will make up a block tonight after work and lets see how creative we can be..
