Challenge Block No 3. finished.

The weekend is going to be busy, so I wanted to finish this today.

Process.

The backing fabric is a Mexican design I used in a previous quilt. I really like everything to match and fit the genre.

Batting is Warm and Natural.

I used a YLI smoke mono filament for the top of the quilt, and  superior Master piece 50 weight in the bobbin.

I mentioned that the fabric would fray on his jeans and jacket, and yest it did, but I went over the edge several times. I used a 60/8 sharp Klasse needle and it pierced the threads rather than push them aside, so I had less fraying than if I had used a larger needle.

I decided to quilt the background, although originally I was just going to leave it. Then again, that's part of being a designer… you go with what feels right as you work on the project.

Each rectangle in the background is quilted differently to give texture… I wanted the direction of the quilting to illustrate the picture as well.

The bottom wall was a textured pattern fabric, so I just followed the pattern for the quilting.

This is just a 6" block, and I mentioned that I will mount the quilts on canvas board. The smallest I can purchase is 8" square so I will need to the border to be quilted as well.

I love doing those textured lines… it's rather earthy… and I added a few curves and squares to represent the Zoccalo (town square) in San Miguel.

The border is square, but my scanner is rectangle so you can't see all the quilting in this image.

I like it.!!!!
