I've put off writing this blog because its all been a bit emotional today.
We gave $10,000 to the children of Alamogordo this morning.
We're a small group and through the art of quilting and the help of the 1st National Bank of Alamogordo, we have been able to give something a little special to thousands of children. So far the total is over $40,000 in the past 3 years. We're only just beginning
Ami Segna Jones from the library was thrilled with the cheque she received today. She said she woke in the night wondering how they were going to fulfill their promises to the children in the next few weeks….never anticipating that help would come their way today.
The bacon is cooking, the coffee is delicious and I'm ready for the day.
Reflecting on yesterday. The gifts given are the culmination of so much work from the group… I just don't know how to thank them enough.
I interviewed a number of people yesterday using a new technique. (for me anyway), my digital SLR and the images are great, we'll use it for future publicity for our program.
Because of the Southern New Mexico Festival of quilts, over 5000 children have been through the Child ID program. Its expanding rapidly. I watched yesterday as children visited the station for their ID pack.
Not only does it capture fingerprints, and D&A, there is also a video of each child and on completion, (which takes just a few minutes) its presented on a video for the family to archive in case of emergencies. Its also linked into the Amber alert.
I even have full ID now D&A and the whole darn works.!!!!
As I write this part of the blog, I'm at the airport, about to depart for LA. So begins another adventure… I hope to see many of you at Long Beach next weekend.
Then I do get to go home for the birth of a new baby.
