Our Marathon Sunday.

The Jacob’s Creek Barossa Marathon Running Festival has a full marathon, half marathon, 10km and 5km running/walking events. All event distances at the Barossa Marathon Running Festival are measured and certified to AIMS and IAAF standard.

It is set in the beautiful town of Tanunda, in the heart of one of South Australia’s best wine regions. The very scenic course passes many prestigious wineries, with the vines in all their autumn glory.

We left home in the dark to travel the 60 kms to the event. Son Matt and his partner Sheena left a lot earlier. It was one of the coldest mornings we’ve had for the year, but the promise of a nice day lasted just an hour or so at sunrise.

However, I managed to get a few shots of the countryside.

We didn’t get there for the start of the full marathon, it was still dark and the images would have been a little eerie. We did get to see the beginning of the 5 km race.

The weather became colder and more overcast so it was time for coffee and the traditional sausage and onion in bread just because it was. I waited patiently holding that darn big camera at the finish line for the full marathon winners to arrive.

I can’t imagine the pain.

And so they came.

And then there was Sheena, fastest woman over the line by 4.50 mins. I almost missed her because her number was under her jacket. I was so excited I could hardly focus the camera.

Sheena was running for Heart Kids to raise money for the organisation that helped our baby boy Baby Jay.

It was a great event.

Congratulations to Sheena on her win and to you Pam my thanks for posting the photos. It did look cold though.

What a beautiful venue and great accomplishment! Sheena is a stud! Always good to be able to raise awareness for things that touch so many lives.
