We’re two friends who are career women, wives, Mothers and Grandmas. I’m not too sure if all of those titles actually blend but at our age we’re making the most of the short time we have away from our day to day lives.

I’m a textile artist with no apologies and when I’m not teaching, lecturing or being a grandma I take out the camera and capture the preciousness around me.

I’m trying to write as we travel in the car, it’s no mean feat, but I can do it.. My left hand dips into the pack of sweet potato chips for a little sustenance.   (Well its actually lunch) Time has got away from us, I think someone turned the clock back because as I write its already 3.00 pm. in the afternoon.

We drove from Alamogordo NM to Gallup last evening. The morning began with no commitments other than the ever present family issues at home that follow us like our shadows. A casual stop to sample Indian bread ended up with a recommendation to visit The Pueblo of Acoma. The Sky City. So of course we did.

The Pueblo is set 300 feet high on a mesa.  Acoma have continuously occupied the area for more than 800 years, making this one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the United States. Acoma tribal traditions estimate that they have lived in the village for more than two thousand years.

It was fascinating and we spent the rest of the morning touring the village with the help of a local guide. I concentrated on capturing the light, the angles and the beauty of the village.

The beauty of a culture so far from my own is humbling, I’m a little out of my league here, but I just love the things we experienced yesterday.
