I’ve been traveling and it isn’t as easy to write an extensive blog each day. Depending on the speed of the internet in my hotel it often takes time to add the images.
So here we are 2 months later and now I can add the images I missed.
I’ll begin with Houston and I’ll add the few images I took of the Van Gogh Cherrywood Challenge 2017. I think there were 465 submissions and each and every one I saw was stunning.
“Participants were asked to use van Gogh’s paintings as inspiration to push themselves creatively, think outside the box and create new fiber art. The contest was open to anyone and we received entries from several countries. All the quilts were the same color, fabric, size and theme.”
I think the image below was my favourite overall.
Why, you might ask? Simply because I loved the color and movement. Did you know that Van gogh actually used dyed wool to
Colour variations
Vincent produced one colour study after another. Which colour combinations create the most powerful effect? How many variations are there of a single colour? Colour had now become an obsession for him Did you know that He used coloured wool to test different combinations before trying them out with his expensive paints. He kept his little balls of wool in a little red box.
I’ve been studying Van Gogh for years and I hope the participants had an opportunity to do so in preparation for their master pieces.

Thanks so much for the revisit to the quilt Show Pam, it was wonderful to visit you to night and unwind for a while from the craziness of Christmas down here. I was able to loss my self in your photo’s, there are so many different ways we look and think about the same thing in life. These pieces of art of Van Gogh show us that. Pam I was honored to be included in this. My piece was the skull with the cigarette. That was actually a painting done in grey scale by Van Gogh when he was in art school. He demonstrated his sense of humor by putting the cigarette in the skeleton’s mouth as a joke. I enjoyed the challenge of doing it in blues. I also thought it was very prophetic of him to do this in the 1800s! Next year’s theme is Prince and the color is purple! I can’t wait to see those! Thank you for all of your wonderful photos of your travel. It allows some of us to live vicariously through you!
