Mid afternoon.
I think that’s the wonderful thing about an event like this. People describe it as their escape, their yearly therapy session…. I don’t know, I just think it’s a lot of fun spending 10 days with a super group of people gathered here in this wonderful place.
As an aside, today I watched a woodpecker on the tree, and I saw whales in the ocean. Very close to the shore. Amazing.
My favorite sight was a row of crows…. A murder of crows. The term “murder” was used to describe a flock of crows as far back as the 15th century, according to the Oxford English Dictionary. (Here’s a spine-chilling version from 1475: “A morther of crowys.”) There was a time once in England when it was fashionable to coin words for groups of animals based on their qualities, whether perceived or real. Hence we have a pride of lions, a gaggle of geese, and a murder of crows. Lions were thought to be regal beasts, so they got a proud name. Geese were noisy, flocking creatures, so their group name reflects that. Crows were thought to be loud, thieving birds. so their group name reflects those traits.
So as I write, very soon about 300 ladies will be arriving here at Asilomar. There is a lot of smiling chatting and animated conversation. Ladies are toting large bags full of goodies, cases roll to the beat of sneaker clad feet and the expectation is high.
Hi Pam. I have just finished a two day workshop with Roz at the helm. We were all very pleased with our Geraldine Giraffes. I still have to complete the quilting and am very inspired to try using my own photos/drawings with the same techniques. Thankyou for your beautifully planned workshop.
