This is a new format from Word Press. I’m going to use it now on the new Ipad. This is my third Ipad pro and its by far the most interesting to use. So I pass the oldest one to my husband and I can actually use two at the same time…. do I need to, well sort of, it’s handy to have three screens. I began the day by drawing these parrots for a project, I am influenced by the wonderful illustrations I saw on walls at the Craft Museum in Delhi. Green parrots are everywhere, even in the city… they are seen all over India, but this picture taken at the craft Museum was my inspiration. I like the bird and the flower, but the leaves are too heavy so I will work on them.
My passion is thread painting. (using the sewing machine to create an image with thread) and not having a cat I practice taking photos on my friends cat. She is patient and sits with a fixed stare as if to say. ‘Just take it’
Of course the day didn’t go as planned… I think is been like that for the past week. I have scribbles in the diary that need to change in a flash with the needs of the family and in between times I’ve been planning events for the rest of the year and working on projects.
Today was to be purely work in the studio….. hiccup. that didn’t happen. An outing with a daughter that needed a break was the go and we both enjoyed it. So the work happened in the early hours of the morning before her visit and late afternoon.
During my time home I need to complete 5 quilts and I’m well on the way to doing that at the moment. I find that working on a number of genres at one time works well for me. I don’t get bored with one quilt… and at the end I finish 5 quilts at once… (well there is a possibility that I won’t) It all depends on babies, family, babysitting, another visit to the skin specialist and the need to stop and sigh every now and then.
How do you select the colors for a realistic quilt? That could be thread or fabric.
Do you have a special technique?
Well, I’m going to do it again and give away a technique I discovered recently.
I spend hours on the plane, while I’m watching TV and even in bed designing on the ipad. (by the way I think every quilter needs an ipad) My mind is constantly challenged and technology has increased my desire to challenge myself even more as a Textile artist… I don’t think I should say I’m a quilter as such.. I’m an artist in textiles I love it. Its stimulating and challenging thanks to Technology.
Those of you who follow my blog are aware that I use the time traveling to design, write, think and create connections between my journal at my destination and my studio at home. I record everything I see, collect things and it’s mainly textile based. Beautiful cloth that has been touched by others hands. Stories and history i
I know I’m preaching to the converted but I’m artists with attitude and I just love the unpredictability of creating with textiles. The refining of the process comes with a little experience and the imprint of practice. Then again, you can never be certain of the finished project. So I just begin.
Lets indulge the child in us and create whimsical images.
We discussed the images and how to create them after first making a ‘reminder’ list. Write down the things you see. Create them as you see them, not as others do. This is your design.
My list was the grass blowing in the breeze, Elephants, patterns, Zebras, Lions and hippos.
The trees with the weaver bird nest, the river and the texture.
So today I share some of the images I have to choose from and besides, this is part of the class we have undertaken during the tour.
