Alison Garner and Paula Doyle.

Paula quietly and expertly walked me through the intricate story of the community project to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta at Runnymede meadow in 1215. The project was  under taken by some 25 women  who have connections with Runnymede in England.

Four Medieval quilts tell the story.

Medieval IV is in 6 panels. Each quilt is surrounded by the 13th century encaustic floor tiles in the chantry at Winchester Cathedral. Each tile was designed by Paula to represent a letter in the alphabet.

The exhibition is also features 4 legacy quilts designed by Paula and stitched by members of the Magna Carta Quilters. with three celebrity quilters assisting.  Each of the legacy quilt  bear an image of an oak tree appliquéd onto traditional English hexagons.

The Oak trees bear 20 leaves, each of them shadowing a thread painted portrait of a key figure in the field of human rights across the world.

I loved this exhibition. As I mentioned before, go to their website for very detailed information.

Brenda, they are amazing. I loved them and I understand the hours that you have all worked. But trust me it is worth while.

Thank you for all the pictures. I was not able to travel to Houston with the quilts and am so pleased they are being received so well. Paula and Alison have worked on this so hard for so long. I was one of the other ladies that helped sew this amazing project and I enjoyed the experience immensely.

  2. Fantastic, thanks for sharing Pam
