The Sockittome – challenge is completed.

So the Sockittome quilt is done. My 5th quilt since Christmas and I managed another 20 feet of the Bayeux so I’m rather pleased as I pack them all in my bag to travel.

Tomato lips.

I’m highly allergic to all fresh fruit and veggies, I have to eat everything cooked, but I love my own home grown tomatoes and in doing so this is what my lips look like each summer. No botox, none of that filler stuff. The green grass surrounds the veggie patch and I pick the tomatoes and lay them on the grass, hence this strange quilt.

I love the food, the people, the colors, the textures and the culture. Jim and I have been working on a tour to Thailand for a few years now, and trust me, this will be a tour with a difference.

Sockittome – the quilting- Capture and Create.

To be really honest, I had no idea how I was going to quilt the piece. By that I mean that turquoise. The socks are dimensional with shading by pencil following the shadow underneath the sock. Handling the piece has rubbed some of the pencil off, but I will re do it when the stitching is finished.

Folk Art Collection – Art to Survive.

Of course fabric is our passion, and we had a chance to buy a variety of different types of African textiles.
The first photo shown here is of the woven ‘Shukas’ worn by the Maasai here in Kenya.
Shúkà is the Maa word for sheets traditionally worn wrapped around the body, one over each shoulder, then a third over the top of them. These are typically red, though with some other colors (e.g.blue) and patterns (e.g. plaid). The other fabrics I bought were very heavily waxed printed fabrics with bold heavy patterns.

Art and Anticipation

I’m about to visit Mexico, Korea and Guatemala and other amazing places and of course you are welcome to journey with me. The planning is done, cameras packed and I must admit, I’m rather excited.

Creativity and Grief.

The book I wrote during that time is a testament to all I shared with you. And yes, it changed my life and filtered down through our family in a very positive way. It doesn’t diminish the sadness and I think everyone at some time of their life experiences loss and grief in one way or another. Rather it heightens the realisation that we are all human and its part of life and we should celebrate each day.

The journey of Grief. –

This is a post I wrote about Grief some time ago. But memories are fresh and there are so many of you going through sad times right now. I had to send this post to a friend recently and I thought I would share the way grief changed my life for the better through quilting.

A Quilter in France. – Capture and Create, photos for quilt inspiration.

Teaching in France afforded me the luxury of taking some lots of photos.

I share some of them with you today.

My focus was mainly windows and doors, and then a little extra. Each photo is taken with a quilt in mind.
