By a fluke, (or was it Karma) we found ourselves at the very place where my Uncle had painted the images. But my take on Low Head is very different. Some of the old buildings are still there 160 years later, as are the light houses.

To be honest, I didn’t really equate the two, Joshua Higgs paintings and the fact that we were at Low Head. It wasn’t until I went through my photos last night that I put the two together.

Photography – the Antique Barn.

Most of the people who look at this blog are textile artists or photographers. My Textile Artist friends, I was concentrating on capturing, light, color and Texture.

Journey with me.

I’ve had some difficulty with my blog and web page over the past month. They are technical difficulties which are very frustrating, but I do hope I’ve been able to rectify them. Of course many of you know of our journey with Baby Jay now 4 weeks old. He is improving slowly and we are…

My Gift the 1776 Quilt, Heartache, Heritage and Happiness.

I just wanted to let you know that your lovely quilt, The 1776 Quilt: Heartache, Heritage and Happiness, did very well on its journey to Nebraska. It is now safely housed in our Isolation room, where new pieces rest for two weeks. The quilt is simply amazing – such an incredibly beautiful piece with exquisite workmanship. It truly is an outstanding gem in the Center’s collection.

Art to make your heart leap – color.

As you wander through the gallery you suddenly get a peep through the door of the skirts painted with vibrant outback colors suspended from the ceiling. The shadows reflecting delicate floating shapes on the floor.

There’s a Hero in everybody’s heart

As I mentioned, my heroes are the families in our adoption group who some 40 years ago changed the lives of so many children. We all grew up together in happiness and pain and its hard to come to terms with the fact that some are loosing their personal battles.

I also include my close personal friends, Miss Lisa Blevins and our team of volunteers in Alamogordo New Mexico. We make the sun shine for many and you are my hero’s. This will be our best year yet.

Re-purposing and creating your own fabric.

Well, I guess we all see beauty and use in the things that interest us. My favourite quilt find is a very old quilt filled with raw cotton and made from bright orange fabric and feed sacks. I actually put a new border of vintage feed sacks on it to make it last just a little longer. I sit under it every day. Maybe I am blind, but I adore that old quilt.

Conversations and Consternations

I’m going to add the conversations and consternations. I’m going to add to the stories, because in all honesty, there was always a lot more going on behind the words. Interesting things happened as a result of the blog. People commented, people contacted me and expanded on the subject I was talking about. I met the most fascinating people who need to be recognised as part of this journey.

Mum you didn’t really drape you quilts over the Police Bike did you?

I tried to explain Quilting to him, but he didn’t understand so I said, let me show you a quilt. I opened the trunk and we had show and tell right on the road side, Drowning Bear draped across his bike and the sun shining against the brightest blue sky.
