This has to be my last post with the quilts from the International Quilt Festival Houston.
I didn’t have time to work yesterday because I had adventures of another type well away from the genre of Quilting. Luana Rubin and I were given the honor of a visit deep into the body of the Nasa Ground Control by Dr Jack Bacon and Astronaut Victor Glover at the Johnson Space centre. It was an honor and I thank them both most sincerely for the amazing opportunity.
t’s not easy photographing the quilts, I had limited time, and sometimes the quilts are placed on an angle so its difficult to place them square in the viewfinder. We all have to take our turn and you wait patiently for the persons in front of you to capture their images.
Then snap… so some of the images are a little crooked at times.

I’m always in awe of the Best of Show quilts and this year is no exception. In this post I feature two award winning quilts.

These are just a few of the winning quilts at the International Quilt Festival in Houston. I will add more as when I get to take the photos over the next few days.
I like to look at the quilts in detail, I study them depth, each and every one.
So today I continue sharing some of the photos I took on the previous day. I will say that you the viewer are getting a more than biased view of the exhibits because I photograph only the Quilts that I have an interest in. I celebrate the creator, and marvel at their ingenuity and skill as quilters.
This is the second day of the International Quilt Festival in Houston.
My time has been limited to visit the quilts, but yesterday between appointments during my lunch time I did a quick sprint around.
Paula quietly and expertly walked me through the intricate story of the community project to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta at Runnymede meadow in 1215. The project was under taken by some 25 women who have connections with Runnymede in England.
Four Medieval quilts tell the story.
Lets indulge the child in us and create whimsical images.
We discussed the images and how to create them after first making a ‘reminder’ list. Write down the things you see. Create them as you see them, not as others do. This is your design.
My list was the grass blowing in the breeze, Elephants, patterns, Zebras, Lions and hippos.
The trees with the weaver bird nest, the river and the texture.
It’s just a 45 minute flight from Nairobi and it was quite smooth. I was sitting behind the pilots, a young Kenyan man and Woman and got a bird’s eye view of the controls. It was certainly a unique trip, specially the in service. The pilot passed a bowl of mints in a plastic container back along the seats stating quite proudly, “in service snacks” and the landing was equally exciting as we wheeled over the dry brown countryside, past herds of elephants and zebras.
Last week when I took my friends to the flower and fabric market it was teaming with rain, so I went back today to take photos for them.
