Nurturing Creativity: Finding my Personal Time

I’ve taken some time out to concentrate on designing projects. The weeks leading up to this were rather hectic. I had a couple of significant tasks to finish. I had to write an article and plan an. amazing tour to Thailand. (excuse my excitement)

I enjoyed the projects. They are at both ends of the spectrum as far as my work is concerned. I was juggling two entirely different genres. I don’t get too much ‘me’ time. So I’ve come up to the shack to spend 5 days of pure relaxation. I am going to teach a class to the ladies in Mannum on Wednesday.

After making my brooch last week, I decided to create another small piece this morning. Technically, it’s a tiny quilt, but I’ll wear it as a brooch.

A little piece of Kantha Quilt and a small sketch on linen . Cheesecloth from the market in Jaipur adds texture. Slow stitching completes the process, and voila, a 4″ Quilt to wear.

As an artist, I find that handling fabric and thread relaxes me. This feeling is especially true now that I’m older. Dare I say, I’m wiser? Most days I start with a sketch or writing, other days start with a little bit of embroidery over breakfast.

The shack, is my sons holiday shack I had the job of bringing it back too life after tenants destroyed it. Its a great place to work in.
