Geraldine’s Journey Continues!
Wednesday 23rd July.
Geraldine is multiplying once again! Today marks Day 2 of our time with her, two weeks after our last encounter. We had a delightful day, and everyone achieved their goals.
Oh, how wonderful it is to teach in the countryside, surrounded by scrumptious treats like cream puffs, chocolate cake, lemon meringue pie, and more. In Australia, enjoying morning and afternoon tea alongside lunch is a treasured tradition.
The ladies were great and surprised me with homemade jam, fabric, a beautiful pink and red bag, and exquisite Italian linen to work with. Thank you all for a fantastic day!

Random kindness quilt give-away week.

The lighthouse is drawn on cream fabric.
The red background is a feed sack that has never been used, and the brown paper wrappers still display their original price tag.
The half-square triangles consist entirely of feed sack pieces; I purchased a bag of 1,000 of these charming hand-sewn blocks for just a dollar at a thrift store.
The fish are designed by Pam Imagination, drawn on white fabric and enhanced with sketch appliqué, complemented by slow stitching and a colourful leg fabric that I created for my alphabet project.
I’m going to give this little guy away, but in the following months, I will give them to the highest bidder. The funding will go to a special project in India.
So, it’s decided. The Fish House quilt is all set to make its grand voyage to Canada, packed with the Facebook friendship I’ve treasured with an amazing lady, longer than I can remember.

15 Minutes to Create a Brooch.

Here’s how it goes: you start by sharing some sketches with a group, and then you feel inspired to work on one of those drawings.
I search through my fabric stash and find some sturdy, starched Korean fabric. It’s quite springy yet firm.
Will the pen work well on this fabric?
I outline the drawing with a black .5 pigment ink pen.
I grab a small piece of old Kantha to serve as the background. Using a bit of Misty Fuse, I iron the drawing onto the Kantha.
Next, I move over to the Q20 and do some stitching with the sewing machine.
I pull out my sample piece, which I usually use to check the machine’s tension; I haven’t used it in a while.
Oops! I realise I’ve been stitching from the back. The front looks much nicer, but it’s tricky to distinguish the front from the back.
I then add colour using Faber-Castell pigment ink pens.
It looks great!
Finally, I straightened it up with a rotary cutter, and now it’s ready for hand stitching tonight.
Finally, once this is completed, it’s the stitching and quilting that takes a little more than 15 minutes, but doing it while you watch TV takes about an hour or two.

Exciting Journey to Thailand Ahead!
In about ten days, I’ll be heading off to Thailand, and I can’t wait to share all the experiences with you! We are a small group of friends embarking on an inaugural tour of both Northern and Southern Thailand.
Rest assured, this isn’t just home videos or trivial information. Our tours focus on textiles, and as Textile Artists, we tend to perceive things in a unique light.
I would love to hear your suggestions on what you’d like us to share, see, or experience, and I’ll do my utmost to make it happen!
