They look wonderful sitting in the jars, whether on not I achieve anything… who knows, but I just did it to see.
I just wanted to let you know that your lovely quilt, The 1776 Quilt: Heartache, Heritage and Happiness, did very well on its journey to Nebraska. It is now safely housed in our Isolation room, where new pieces rest for two weeks.The quilt is simply amazing – such an incredibly beautiful piece with exquisite workmanship. It truly is an outstanding gem in the Center’s collection.
I know I’m preaching to the converted but I’m artists with attitude and I just love the unpredictability of creating with textiles. The refining of the process comes with a little experience and the imprint of practice. Then again, you can never be certain of the finished project. So I just begin.
As you wander through the gallery you suddenly get a peep through the door of the skirts painted with vibrant outback colors suspended from the ceiling. The shadows reflecting delicate floating shapes on the floor.
As I mentioned, my heroes are the families in our adoption group who some 40 years ago changed the lives of so many children. We all grew up together in happiness and pain and its hard to come to terms with the fact that some are loosing their personal battles.
I also include my close personal friends, Miss Lisa Blevins and our team of volunteers in Alamogordo New Mexico. We make the sun shine for many and you are my hero’s. This will be our best year yet.
Well, I guess we all see beauty and use in the things that interest us. My favourite quilt find is a very old quilt filled with raw cotton and made from bright orange fabric and feed sacks. I actually put a new border of vintage feed sacks on it to make it last just a little longer. I sit under it every day. Maybe I am blind, but I adore that old quilt.
