How do you match the colors for a quilt?

How do you select the colors for a realistic quilt? That could be thread or fabric.

Do you have a special technique?

Well, I’m going to do it again and give away a technique I discovered recently.

Digital technology that goes well beyond creativity

I spend hours on the plane, while I’m watching TV and even in bed designing on the ipad. (by the way I think every quilter needs an ipad) My mind is constantly challenged and technology has increased my desire to challenge myself even more as a Textile artist… I don’t think I should say I’m a quilter as such.. I’m an artist in textiles I love it. Its stimulating and challenging thanks to Technology.

When the woman you live with is an artist, every day is a surprise.

Those of you who follow my blog are aware that I use the time traveling to design, write, think and create connections between my journal at my destination and my studio at home. Art to make your heart leap – color.

As you wander through the gallery you suddenly get a peep through the door of the skirts painted with vibrant outback colors suspended from the ceiling. The shadows reflecting delicate floating shapes on the floor.

Re-purposing and creating your own fabric.

Well, I guess we all see beauty and use in the things that interest us. My favourite quilt find is a very old quilt filled with raw cotton and made from bright orange fabric and feed sacks. I actually put a new border of vintage feed sacks on it to make it last just a little longer. I sit under it every day. Maybe I am blind, but I adore that old quilt.

My Gift to you.

It’s just 12 days till Christmas and so I want to create a little something you can download and keep.

So, From me, to you.

I thank you, my students, my family, the friends I spend time with and all who follow my blog and Facebook posts. Thanks for your support as I traveled and shared, and thanks for having faith in the fact that I could share some of my knowledge in the classroom and lecture halls.

70 days on the road.

So here it is, finally the end of my tour. It seems such a long time since I left home with Keith late September. He has been home almost 3 weeks now and I will finally be able to sleep in  my own bed in 24 hours. What a privilege it has been to travel and share…

First day of filming – the master craftsmen of Guatemala.

We boated across the lake, it was a clear, warm day and the excitement mounted. Of course having a full film crew in a small village adds a buzz to the environment. Having a cast of ‘ordinary’ crafters is also unique and we were welcomed with lots of smiles and good humor from the local people.
