Back on track. Bayeux, babies and blocks.

This week, I’m preparing photos to accompany my quilts at the Paducah Show. It’s quite exciting to present an exhibition such as this and I decided to actually create a portrait in thread rather than just add a photo of myself.

Observations. – and admiration for a small US country town.

The Saturdays are slipping off the other end of the calendar and new ones are lining up for the rest of the trip. I have four more to experience, more interesting people to meet and a few more adventures to experience before I get to go home.

I’ve had two Saturdays in Costa Rica, Two in Mexico, one in California, two Saturdays were in India, the next was Oman, then 2 in Dubai, one in NY, and now today in upstate NY. I gave in and slept for a few hours this afternoon.

The pit weaver of Oman – A traveling Quilters Joy.

We were welcomed into their house. The entire family assembled to meet us. Father and two of the sons showed us the weaving, but I sort of lost something in the translation. I don’t think the Father is doing it any more because of his poor eyesight.
We were ushered into the main room of the house which was painted bright yellow. Around the 4 walls as sumptuous seating.

I’ve been up since 3.30, catching up on paperwork… mainly for the next trip to Mexico. I’m sure that will be another adventure indeed.

Tango Mar. –

I woke with anticipation in the morning and a just a slight concern about the uncertain. I hadn’t traveled on Jetblue before, I’ve never been to Costa Rica and I was unsure of the timing of the events of the day. But you just let the events slide over you and the inevitable happens. The day proceeds like a thread through fabric, weaving and blending all the events to make one.

I can finally share some of the quilts that I love and have huge admiration for.

What do you look for in a quilt?

I look for design, depth, visual impact and meaning. I personally think that the quilting should be outstanding at this level.

This is not the best drawing I’ve done, but I’m working through the process right now. This is a pattern that I will re-create as an appliqué panel, but wanted to see if I could draw a quarter of the image and then see how it turns out when I mirror image it.

I wanted to do a drawing of all the things I’ve seen, touched, love and have experienced here in Antigua. Most of my quilt images originate from my photos… but then some from my imagination.

So what better to do than to attempt to combine all of those things.

This is drawn on the iPad using colored pencils. The excitement of drawing in the iPad is that I can just press a button and rub out the parts I don’t like.
